One More Enhancement request … really ….

Digging into Invoice Discounts taken at the time of invoicing … this is a great catch started by Ryan … it shows up on the Journal report — but just as a TOTAL of all invoice discounts … there is NO auditing on what staff is doing these … who is getting these …

One really has to wonder why thus doesn’t trip a flag on the LISA report so common sense management review can happen … this is ripe for abuse the way it is ..

Call # 3070790 for an enhancement was made today for Exploris (and Parts Watch users everywhere ) ….

PS — one small work around — make all parts NET ( see the F-8 screen main Inventory ) ..but that seems to be a sledgehammer approach to a smaller problem ?

PS – our Office Manager shows me how to spot on an end of day …. not prefect ..but – something …

I would rather have a report that lists every invoice discount done by … and received by … for the month …

Digging deeper into Audit’s ….

A short time back one of our stores calls me to find out why I set an very odd – extreme order point on 2 part numbers …. and I was baffled … in 1 case I had recently adjusted the SLB H11BP ( up for all due to sales growth ) ..but the pat in question was H11BP2 which is a twin pac and very unpopular.

So I started to dig into audits ( with the help of our help desk at CARQUEST. The image above is from Utility – Audit Report … notice there is NO auditing on the Multi-Store Creator-Editor. Wow …

I have written much about this screen -a screen that is absolutely essential for a multi-store … we use it for setting several fields ( do not forecast – display labels – cleaning up descriptions ( for non-CQ parts ). and of course the order points )

Call # 307066 …why does Exploris ( a version of PartsWatch by Autologue ) … not audit changes there

If Exploris was only BETTER … in every small way …

One point that has irritated us for many years is the sloppy incomplete descriptions that we suffer thru — from CARQUEST. Yes they have ( in some lines ) been getting better … but!

The HUGE issue is — why can’t there be a way to FREEZE a description … so that CARQUEST doesn’t update it … then we can on our own ‘identify’ and ‘improve’ that specific part or group of parts …

What would happen if the description started with a ‘special character’ … say a DASH … and the system was programmed to NOT UPDATE the Desc #1 when it sees a DASH as the first character …. there is way … just not the will to improve at Autologue & CARQUEST ?

I have written to lots of people over the years ( from the very top all the way down ) and it has been hard to get traction this issue. Some improvements .. but not enough

You can’t say HOSE — you have to tell us what type of hose – what size – what length .. etc etc.

This post is as a result of Spencer at Auto Barn writing me about this part … general Service Part … ggeeezzzesssh …

The Web Link data has a better description – why can’t we have proper descriptions so the customer knows what he bought when he looks at the invoice … so the staff know what they are looking for when they pull the stock on an order to delivery …so so so many reasons for GREAT descriptions and so FEW reasons to tolerate CRAP.

The Simple Things are Important …

The recent change from the line code BAT to BEP for CARQUEST Canada should have been an easy one … so one wonders how this got screwed up –for the sales history.

We reported the Multi-Store Creator-Editor ( used by multi-stores ) didn’t have sales history but the F-8 Parts History did — well …I might have been too quick to say that.

Here are examples of sales history that didn’t come over properly …. boy …do we miss proper sales history for planning for the future …. WTF …

The Love Hate relationship with ‘Multi-Store Creator-Editor’

Only Multi-store users would use this – hence the name. In the past we have called a few multi-store users and they were unaware of this program – even thought it is front and center in the menu for INVENTORY

We have written a bunch on the BUGS that are in Multi-Store C-E … and a few years back we heard an unofficial ( but well placed ) person say bluntly that this program is so complex and ‘old’ they were afraid to touch it …

Well – here is another problem we have found. Canada switched battery lines from BAT to BEP to match the USA … but our sales history is missing in Multi-Store C-E … but is in our reports and in the F-8 Inventory screen ( by store )

Examples below …. go figure …anyways call # 249-627 is now labeled as an enhancement request and not a bug … we protest this … but … the many known problems with Multi-Store C-E exist despite all the many years they have had to fix some … 🙂

Been a while -change habits ?

Sorry – been a while .. with so many suggestions and BUG FIXS still not done for Parts Watch ( yes- some where done – thank you for those .. but .. ) – it can get you down.

But -lets look at something new here.  Our 4 stores run into STUFF we don’t want and can not return – so we can trash or figure out how to promote and sell off….. it is this review process that has been the problem for CARQUEST products … well – maybe this is a way that will work for us and you?

Identify the part .. in this case we are using a Local Cdn Cdn CQ part

Note the changes… I know — we updated a product description –but it MAY stay long enough for us to get the product out – before CQ flushes in a new update ( several blog posts written about the problems that causes ) …and the PN Code ( sub line ) to 999.

Why 999 … we have used 999 as a slush sub line to move crap and get rid of it in Bulk Deletes… there is an easy way to add a sub line ( PNCode) for all …if you know how to use DFIU app for adding parts … much of what happens here assumes you are OK with Excel.  We grab the sales by line & PN Code data for many years and make a handy report –from here I can get aa list of all active Lines ( you may have a TON of crap dead lines when you start – but that is another blog post.  You are adding a test part for every line and the system automatically adds the new PN Code if you click the right boxes……

Next update that dead part with the PN Code 999 ( in Multi-store Creator-Editor – we love and hate this screen – many many posts about this ) …if single store e- use F-8

The add the Billing Schedule for Blank ( all ) Line Codes and PN Code of 999 – at whatever price you want … for us – cost is great – lets get rid of dead parts …

And –you can run a report ( we dump all data into excel …remember I warned you about how much CRAP deal lines and parts you will have … we have less than 250,00 active parts–for  4 stores in Total …  – you probably have more than 250,000 active parts for 1 store  – love to hear … and then you have a job during this CoVid19 time to kill them ..)

  • this is flushing the test part we just added …and any OTHER part with a 999 PN Code …don’t worry –it won’t delete the part with any activity – part on hand – order point and watch for any undeleted manifests ( that trips up 1 store from time to time ) –so once the part sells off – and a routine flush happens –it is gone from the active file … if we et a call for that part again –in comes back in with the normal info and the normal PN code and gets priced accordingly.

Next — watch and see if this. works … there has to be better ways to run our stores … thru sharing idea’s is one way … what is your ?

Reason # 25 – why Exploris ( Parts Watch ) should be better …. delays in fixing BUGS

When PartsWatch ( CARQUEST jobbers call it Exploris ) breaks something – it seems to take forever to get it fixed … this example wasn’t a great example as the original report was crap from a jobbers perspective …. the price change report …. the headers didn’t match the report ( you can figure it out ) and the real data ( our costs ) was listed way after columns of ‘junk’ …. so you needed excel to Clea up and trash or hide most.

Well – that is easily taken care of –you break the report ….now we have NO IDEA of the price changes …. on a part by part basis … se we are asking the Toronto DC to provide us with the ADIS report for this …. seems only fair ?

Break time over … back to work …

Wow–last post was November 2018 … break time over … back to work …

Some points.

-just had a comment from a jobber asking ( pleading ? ) for help … where is support ..I don’t mean the phone support -that is good … were are the training video’s … just a handful of YOUTUBE videos so far from Autologue … really … that is the best you can do out there in LA ?

-there could be so many additional ways to help jobbers master Exploris ( PartsWatch )

-been working on running monthly LISA reports … and importing the SMC ( sales class ) for all parts using something line Lookup ( we use a more complex INDEX( MATCH()) formula we and others have written about … but in Autologue & Advance wanted to be nice – they would add the SMC into the LISA report … and we sort the BO ( buy outs ) our stores had to do for SMC parts in the 1.1 thru 3.9 range… most often it is because our stock level is TOO LOW and we bump … some things you just never want to be out of .. given back orders from the DC or just trying to predict how many any customer might want … has helped us reduce buy outs and keep your customers happy … there are a few other things like price over ride review you can do – be sure to set up REASONS in your system for price over rides …

-the team from the inventory control guys commented at the Niagara Falls meetings in the fall of 2018 on why I make such a big deal about having SMC ( sales class) reflect the sales of the part … the reason above is just one way we use it .. .. the better we can have the product managers identify parts that WILL GROW and get them to anticipate the sales by improving the sales class ..especially moving them from 8.9 to something reasonable … has such an impact on getting supply thru the chain…. oh well ..this old guy can dream …

Bugs ?? Check your daily PO after 57.11 ?

It is only a guess …but somehow our daily CARQUEST PO’s have gotten messed up in several of our stores … see images below … many KEY lines were on the Exclude list to order…. holly cow …. yeh … WTF ….  and this seems to coincide with the upgrade to 57.11 for Parts Watch – Exploris.

You should check your stores  daily PO ( and other PO’s ?? ) —   we found this by luck …looking at a special Back Order report were we add in the Sales Movement Codes …to see what special action we have to take to get stock … the back orders from Toronto are crazy … and someone double checked a random part … hey …why was a caliper ( yes–the Caliper line in that store … how ironic …  ) not on order …
